The science

How does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal works by sending a pulse of light into the hair follicle. Pigment in the hair absorbs the light and turns it into heat, which damages the follicle so it grows back slower, finer and sparser. Only hairs in the active growth (anagen) phase respond, which is why a course of sessions is needed.

Laser & More Clinic is a DHA-licensed aesthetic clinic in Al Rashidiya, Dubai, using the Candela GentleMax Pro laser. Settings are matched to your skin and hair after a consultation and skin assessment.

01

Light is absorbed by the hair

Melanin in the hair absorbs 755nm or 1064nm light.

02

Heat disables the follicle

Its ability to regrow thick hair is reduced.

03

Treated hair sheds

Hairs fall out over one to three weeks.

Tailored plans

Laser hair removal for women and men

Laser hair removal works for both women and men, but hair growth patterns differ, so plans do too. Your specialist adjusts the wavelength, energy and session spacing to your hair type, skin tone, hormones and the areas you want treated.

Laser hair removal for women

Treatments take place in a private room with female specialists. Hormone-related hair, including PCOS-linked growth, may need extra sessions and occasional top-ups.

  • Upper lip, chin and sideburns
  • Underarms, bikini and Brazilian
  • Full legs, arms and full body

Laser hair removal for men

Coarse, deep-rooted hair responds well to the 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength, and fewer razor bumps is a common benefit. Male clients are treated by Abdullah, our male laser specialist, and female specialists are also available for the beard and neck.

  • Back, shoulders and chest
  • Beard line, cheeks and neck
  • Arms, legs and full body
Treatment areas

Which areas can be treated with laser?

Almost any area with unwanted dark hair can be treated with laser, from the upper lip down to the toes. You can combine several areas in one visit, or choose a full-body plan that covers everything in a single course of sessions.

Compare methods

Is laser better than waxing or shaving?

For long-term results, yes. Shaving and waxing only remove hair above or at the root, so it returns within days or weeks. Laser treats the follicle itself, giving up to 90% hair reduction after a full course (results vary), with fewer ingrown hairs along the way.

Is laser safe for dark skin?

Yes, when the right wavelength is used. The GentleMax Pro's 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength passes by the pigment in the skin's surface and targets the follicle deeper down, so it is suitable for olive, brown and dark skin (Fitzpatrick IV–VI) when set by a trained specialist.

We assess every new client's skin and hair at a consultation, then adjust energy and cooling from session to session to lower the risk of burns or pigment change.

How many laser hair removal sessions do I need?

Most clients need 6–8 laser hair removal sessions, spaced 3–4 weeks apart. Hair grows in cycles and the laser only affects follicles in the active growth phase, so each session treats a new batch. Your specialist confirms your number at consultation.

Coarse hair on the legs and underarms often clears fastest; facial and hormone-driven hair can take longer. Many clients book one or two top-ups a year.

Sessions 1–3

Hairs shed; regrowth is slower and patchier.

Sessions 4–6

Noticeably fewer, finer hairs.

Sessions 6–8 and beyond

Long-term reduction; top-ups as needed. Results vary.

Before & after

How should I prepare, and what is the aftercare?

Good preparation makes laser safer and more effective. Shave the area the day before, avoid waxing and tanning for four weeks, and arrive with clean skin. Afterwards, keep treated skin cool, skip heat, exercise and sun for 48 hours, and apply SPF 50 every day.

Before your session

  • Shave the area 12–24 hours before your visit
  • No waxing, plucking, threading or bleaching for four weeks
  • Arrive without creams, deodorant or makeup on the area

After your session

  • Expect mild redness that fades within a few hours
  • No hot showers, saunas or gym for 48 hours
  • Apply SPF 50 every day and avoid direct sun

FAQs

Laser hair removal in Dubai: your questions answered

Answers from our laser specialists. See all FAQs.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Most people feel a quick snap, like a rubber band flick, and describe it as comfortable.

The Dynamic Cooling Device sprays cryogen onto the skin just before each pulse. Sensitive areas can feel sharper.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Laser gives long-term hair reduction rather than guaranteed permanent removal.

Regrowth is usually finer and lighter; hormonal changes may call for top-ups.

Can I have laser hair removal on dark skin?

Yes. The 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength is suitable for darker skin, Fitzpatrick types IV–VI.

Your specialist assesses your skin first and sets energy and cooling for your skin, adjusting them from session to session, to lower the risk of burns or pigment change.

How long does a laser session take?

It depends on the area: underarms take around 10 minutes, the face, beard or bikini about 15 minutes, legs about 25 minutes, and a full-body session 1.5 to 2 hours.

Large spot sizes help cover bigger areas efficiently.

Is there any downtime after laser hair removal?

No real downtime. Skin may look slightly red, like mild sun exposure, usually fading within a few hours.

Avoid heat, exercise and direct sun for 48 hours.

Can I have laser treatment while pregnant?

We don't offer laser treatment during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as a precaution.

We pause your course and restart when you're ready.
