How do lip fillers work?
Lip filler is a soft hyaluronic acid gel placed in the lip body or along the border. HA attracts water, so it can hydrate lips that look dry or lined as well as add shape. The doctor chooses where to place it depending on whether you want smoother lips, more fullness or a crisper outline.
Because the lips move constantly, a softer, flexible gel is used so they look and feel natural when you talk and smile. Filler can be dissolved if you ever change your mind.
Common reasons clients visit
- Thin lips
- Uneven lips
- Dry, lined lips
- Undefined border
- Flat Cupid's bow
- Lips thinning with age
Your goal
Hydration, volume or definition: which lip filler result do you want?
Lip fillers can do three different things: hydrate lips with barely any change in size, add volume for fuller lips, or define the border and Cupid's bow. Many people want a blend. Knowing your main goal helps the doctor choose the product, amount and placement.
Hydration
A light treatment for smoother, softer lips and fine lip lines, with little change in size. Popular as a first step.
Volume
Fuller lips kept in proportion to your face, with the top-to-bottom lip balance respected.
Definition
A clearer lip border, a sharper Cupid's bow and improved symmetry, without much added size.
How much filler?
How much lip filler will I need?
It depends on your case. There is no standard amount: the doctor recommends the product and amount at consultation, based on your lip size, tissue and goal. Starting smaller is never a mistake, because you can add more later.
| Subtle change | Fuller change | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical change | Hydration or light shaping | Noticeable fullness |
| Often chosen by | First-timers, naturally full lips | Thinner lips, or a second build-up visit |
| Swelling | Usually milder | Can be more obvious for a few days |
Natural results
Why build lip volume gradually?
Building gradually gives your lip tissue time to adapt, lets you get used to your new shape and keeps results looking like your own lips. Instead of adding a lot at once, the doctor may place a modest amount, then add more at a later visit if you'd like. Whether you need a review visit is decided case by case.
- Your lip proportions and face shape guide the plan
- Popular styles, such as flatter "Russian lips", are discussed honestly
- The doctor will advise against overfilling

What happens during a lip filler appointment?
After a consultation, the doctor places the filler in small amounts and shapes it as they go, checking the result with you in the mirror. Laser & More Clinic is a DHA-licensed aesthetic clinic in Al Rashidiya, Dubai, and lip fillers are performed only by a DHA-licensed doctor.

Recovery
How long does swelling last after lip fillers?
Lips swell more than most areas after filler, so don't judge your result on day one. Swelling usually peaks in the first day or two, most of it settles within a few days, and the final shape shows at around two weeks. Bruising is possible but not universal.
Peak swelling
Lips may feel firm, tender or look uneven. This is normal.
Settling
Most swelling goes down and the shape looks more natural.
Final shape
The filler has integrated and the final shape shows.
Gradual fade
Filler breaks down slowly; top up when you're ready.
Preparation & aftercare
How should I prepare for lip fillers, and what about cold sores?
If you've ever had a cold sore, tell the doctor before treatment, because lip injections can trigger an outbreak. The doctor may suggest preventive steps, and we won't treat while a cold sore is active. Avoid alcohol beforehand, and after treatment skip lipstick, kissing and hot drinks for the first day.
Before your appointment
- Tell the doctor about any cold sore history
- Reschedule if a cold sore or lip infection is active
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours
- Allow two weeks before weddings or big events
After your appointment
- No lipstick or lip products for 24 hours
- Avoid kissing, straws and very hot drinks on day one
- Cold compresses for swelling, as advised
- No intense exercise or saunas for 24 hours

How long do lip fillers last?
Lip filler usually needs topping up sooner than filler in the cheeks or chin, because the lips move so much. How long yours lasts depends on the product, the amount and your metabolism, and the doctor will give you a realistic range at consultation. Results vary.

Will my lips look natural?
That's the aim. The doctor plans around your proportions and often starts with a small amount.
You can always add more at a later visit, which is easier than reversing too much.
How long does lip swelling last?
Swelling usually peaks in the first day or two and mostly settles within a few days.
The final shape shows at around two weeks.
Can I have lip filler if I get cold sores?
Often yes, but tell the doctor first. Injections can trigger an outbreak, so preventive steps may be advised.
We won't treat while a cold sore is active.
Do lip fillers hurt?
The lips are sensitive, but many fillers contain a local anaesthetic, which keeps most people comfortable.
Most describe pressure and a brief sting.
Can lip filler be dissolved?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid lip filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed.
The doctor will explain when that might be appropriate.
How much do lip fillers cost in Dubai?
The cost depends on the treatment area, the number of sessions and what your plan includes, so we don't publish a fixed price list.
