What is a chemical peel?
A chemical peel is a skin treatment in which an exfoliating acid is applied for a set time to loosen and remove the outer layers of skin. As the skin renews, it looks brighter and smoother, and marks, dark patches and fine lines gradually become less visible.
The depth of a peel depends on the acid, its strength and how long it stays on. Deeper peels do more but need more recovery and carry more risk, so we always start with the gentlest peel that can reach your goal.
What peels can help with
- Acne marks
- Hyperpigmentation
- Melasma
- Sun damage
- Fine lines
- Enlarged pores
- Post-acne redness
- Dullness
Peel strengths
Which chemical peel strength is right for me?
Light peels suit dullness, mild congestion and anyone new to peels. Medium peels reach deeper pigmentation, acne marks and sun damage but typically need 7–14 days of healing, with more noticeable redness, swelling and peeling. The right strength depends on your concern, skin type and how much downtime you can allow.
| Depth | Peel we may use | Best for | Downtime |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light | Bio-peel or a gentle TCA peel | Glow, congestion, mild marks | Usually minimal; redness and flaking may occur during 1–7 days of healing |
| Medium | TCA peel | Pigmentation, acne marks, sun damage, fine lines | Typically 7–14 days of healing, with more noticeable redness, swelling and peeling |
A guide only. We choose a TCA peel or a bio-peel case by case, and set its strength and timing at your skin analysis. Results vary.
Recovery
Will my skin peel after a chemical peel in Dubai?
With a light peel, disruption to daily activities is usually minimal, though redness and flaking may occur during 1–7 days of healing. With a medium peel, healing typically takes 7–14 days, with more noticeable redness, swelling and peeling as the old layer sheds. Healing time varies from person to person, and letting the flakes fall naturally is the most important part of recovery.
Tight and slightly pink
Skin can feel like mild sunburn. Use cool water and the balm we recommend.
Flaking, mainly medium peels
Fine flakes shed around the mouth and nose first. Never pick or pull them.
Fresh, even skin
New skin is smoother but sensitive, so strict SPF matters most now.
Are chemical peels safe for darker skin?
Chemical peels can be used on darker skin, but the choice of acid and strength matters. Deeper or aggressive peels can trigger post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, meaning new dark patches, so we favour gentler peels, pre-peel skin preparation and a cautious build-up.
- Pre-peel creamOften recommended for about two weeks to prepare the skin.
- Skin assessment firstYour skin type and history guide the peel we choose.
- Gradual strengthStarting light and increasing only if skin responds well.
When is the best time for a peel in Dubai?
The cooler months, roughly October to April, are the easiest time for medium peels because UV exposure and heat are lower. Avoid booking a peel just before a beach holiday or outdoor event, and plan light peels in summer only if you can stay out of direct sun.
Whatever the season, freshly peeled skin burns and pigments easily, so reapply SPF 50+ every two hours when outdoors.
Preparation & aftercare
How do I prepare for a chemical peel?
Stop retinol or tretinoin at least seven days before your peel, avoid waxing and threading on the face for a week, and arrive without a fresh tan or sunburn. Afterwards, let flakes shed naturally, rinse with cool water and protect your skin from the sun.
Before your peel
- Stop retinol or tretinoin 7 days before
- No facial waxing or threading for 1 week
- No fresh tan or sunburn
- Use pre-peel cream for 2 weeks if advised
After your peel
- Never pick or pull flaking skin
- SPF 50+ every 2 hours outdoors
- Cool water only for the first 5 days
- Use the post-peel recovery balm we recommend
Results
How many chemical peels will I need?
One light peel gives a noticeable brightness, but pigmentation, acne marks and texture usually need a course of peels spaced several weeks apart. Results build gradually and last longest when you keep up daily SPF and the home routine your specialist recommends.
Results vary, and pigmentation such as melasma can return with sun exposure. For deeper scarring, peels are often combined with Dermapen microneedling; for glow with no peeling, see HydraFacial.

Does a chemical peel hurt?
Most people feel tingling or warmth while the peel is on, which settles once it is neutralised or removed.
Medium peels feel stronger than light peels. Tell your specialist if it becomes uncomfortable.
How long does peeling last?
After a light peel, redness and flaking may occur during 1–7 days of healing. Medium peels typically take 7–14 days to heal, with more noticeable redness, swelling and peeling.
Healing time varies from person to person. Avoid important events until your skin has finished shedding.
Can a chemical peel remove melasma?
Peels can lighten melasma, but they don't cure it, and it can return with sun or hormonal changes.
Melasma needs a gentle, long-term approach. See our pigmentation treatment page.
Can I go in the sun after a peel?
Keep out of direct sun as much as possible, and reapply SPF 50+ every two hours outdoors.
New skin is very sensitive to UV, which can cause burning or new dark spots.
Who shouldn't have a chemical peel?
Peels may not suit you if you are pregnant, have active cold sores, broken skin or recent sunburn.
Recent isotretinoin use or certain skin conditions also need review.
How much does a chemical peel cost in Dubai?
The cost depends on the treatment area, the number of sessions and what your plan includes, so we don't publish a fixed price list.
