The treatment

What is Dermapen microneedling?

Dermapen microneedling is a collagen induction treatment using a pen-shaped device with a cartridge of fine, sterile needles. The needles move rapidly up and down to make thousands of micro-channels, which the skin repairs by producing fresh collagen and elastin, leaving it smoother and firmer over time.

Because it works without heat or light, microneedling is a useful option for darker skin tones, where some lasers carry a higher risk of pigment changes. Each session uses a new single-use cartridge.

What microneedling treats

  • Acne scars
  • Rough texture
  • Enlarged pores
  • Fine lines
  • Dullness
  • Mild stretch marks
Collagen induction

How does microneedling stimulate collagen?

Microneedling works by creating controlled micro-injuries that the skin treats as small wounds. The healing response releases growth factors that build new collagen and elastin, which gradually fill and smooth scars and tighten texture. Needle depth is set by your specialist for each area of the face.

STAGE 01

Micro-channels

Fine needles create even, controlled channels at a set depth.

STAGE 02

Healing response

Skin releases growth factors and starts repairing within hours.

STAGE 03

Collagen remodelling

New collagen builds over the following weeks, smoothing the surface.

Acne scars

Can microneedling in Dubai help acne scars?

Yes. Microneedling is one of the most common treatments for acne scars, especially rolling and shallow boxcar scars, which soften as new collagen lifts the skin. Deep, narrow icepick scars respond less, and active breakouts need to be under control before treatment starts.

For breakouts that are still active, start with our acne treatment plan first.

  • Rolling scarsSoft, wave-like dips that often respond well.
  • Boxcar scarsShallow ones improve; deeper ones may need more sessions.
  • Icepick scarsNarrow and deep, so improvement is more limited.
  • Depth by areaYour specialist adjusts needle depth for cheeks, forehead and around the eyes.

On the day

What happens during a microneedling session?

A microneedling session starts with cleansing, then the Dermapen is moved across each area in passes at the depth your specialist sets. Most people feel a light vibrating, scratchy sensation. Skin looks pink straight afterwards, similar to mild sunburn.

STEP 01

Assessment

Esra checks your skin, scars and medical history.

STEP 02

Preparation

The skin is cleansed and prepared.

STEP 03

Treatment

Controlled passes at set depths, area by area.

STEP 04

Soothe

A calming serum is applied; no makeup for the rest of the day.

Microneedling or chemical peel: which is right for me?

Choose microneedling when your main concern is texture or scarring, because it works deeper to rebuild collagen. Choose a chemical peel when you want to brighten dull skin or fade surface pigmentation. The two are often combined in one plan, spaced a few weeks apart.

Preparation & aftercare

How should I prepare for microneedling?

Stop retinoids and exfoliating acids a few days before microneedling, avoid sunburn, and reschedule if you have a cold sore or active breakout in the area. Afterwards, keep skin clean, skip makeup for the rest of the day and protect it from sun and heat.

Before your session

  • Pause retinoids and acids as advised
  • No sunburn, tanning or waxing on the area
  • Reschedule if you have a cold sore or active acne
  • Tell us about blood thinners or isotretinoin

After your session

  • No makeup for the rest of the day
  • Gentle cleanser and the serum we recommend
  • SPF 50 daily; avoid direct sun
  • No gym, sauna or swimming for 24–48 hours

Results

When will I see microneedling results?

Skin often looks fresher about a week after a session, but the real change comes from collagen, which keeps building for weeks after each treatment. Scars and texture improve gradually across a course. Results vary with scar type, skin type and aftercare, and scars soften rather than disappear.

For a broader texture and glow plan, microneedling pairs well with other options in our skin rejuvenation course.

FAQs

Microneedling FAQs

Answers from our skin team. See all FAQs for more.

Does microneedling hurt?

Most clients describe it as a light scratching or vibrating feeling rather than pain.

Bony areas such as the forehead can feel more noticeable.

How much downtime is there after microneedling?

Redness, sensitivity and mild swelling may last a few days, sometimes up to a week.

How long it lasts varies from person to person.

How many microneedling sessions will I need?

Most people need a course of sessions, depending on their concern.

Acne scars usually need more sessions than general texture or glow.

Is microneedling safe for darker skin?

Yes, it is generally well suited to darker skin because it doesn't rely on heat or light.

Careful depth settings and strict sun protection help avoid pigment changes.

Is Dermapen different from a home derma roller?

Yes. A clinical Dermapen uses sterile, single-use needles at depths set by a trained specialist.

Home rollers can tear skin and spread bacteria, so we don't recommend them.

How much does microneedling cost in Dubai?

The cost depends on the treatment area, the number of sessions and what your plan includes, so we don't publish a fixed price list.
